The LEGO Group backs Google Science Fair 2013

Students from around the globe are being challenged to make a difference by taking part in the largest online science fair in the world – backed by The LEGO Group.

Google Science Fair 2013 was launched on January 30, 2013 and calls on students to put their science and engineering projects online to compete for prizes, scholarships and once-in-a-lifetime experiences. There's also a ‘Science in Action’ prize for the top project that shows positive, local community impact.

The LEGO Group is a partner of the Fair, along with CERN, National Geographic and Scientific American. LEGO Education President Jacob Kragh says he is looking forward to seeing the achievements of the world’s young scientists and engineers:

“The LEGO Group is delighted to support this year’s Google Science Fair which is inspiring the next generation of problem solvers and promoting 21st century skills that are essential for the future.

“The Fair confirms that, given the right contexts and creative opportunities, students are capable of great things. With the program extending to embrace engineering, we are anticipating some very imaginative submissions and look forward to seeing what is possible.”

Last year’s winners focused on tackling the early diagnosis of breast cancer, improving the experience of listening to music for people with hearing loss, cataloging the ecosystem found in water and subsistence farming in Swaziland.

Entries to the Google Science Fair 2013 have now closed. The judges will be scoring every project submitted during May and the top 90 regional finalists will be announced on the Google Science Fair 2013 website in early June with the finalists to follow shortly after. In the meantime, keep watching the Hangouts on Air to hear great scientist talking about their work.
