What can you see?

(5-10 Minutes)

Show the children the Maker 'Connect' illustration showing Mr. Bear in his wheelchair. Discuss the things that they can see in the picture and ways in which they could help Mr. Bear to go up the stairs.

Ask the children if they have ever noticed that some buildings have been built in such a way that people in wheelchairs can move easily in, out and about.

Talk about the different LEGO bricks and other materials that you could use to help Mr. Bear go up the stairs.

Go Make

Encourage the children to experiment with the elements to see if any of them sparks their interest and creativity.

Consider asking questions like:

  • How can you make it safe for Mr. Bear to go up the stairs?
  • Does your model make it easy for Mr. Bear to go up the stairs?
  • What would make going up the stairs more fun for Mr. Bear?
  • What would happen if Mr. Bear needed to go down the stairs?

Show and Tell

Ask the children to take turns sharing the models that they have made.

Consider asking questions like:

  • What do you call the model that you have built?
  • What does Mr. Bear do when he wants to go up the stairs?
  • How have you made it safe and fun for Mr. Bear to go up the stairs?
