ASAP Grant
Eligibility
- Local education agencies (LEAs).
- Not-for-profit organizations.
- Entities supporting summer- and after-school programs through collaborative applications.
- Individual schools/teachers are not eligible to apply independently.
Priority:
- Programs serving populations with poverty rates of 65% or higher.
- Communities with limited access to high-quality after-school or summer programming.
- At least 60% of funding is targeted toward nonprofit/community-based organizations or partnerships between community organizations and LEAs.
Goals
- Expand access to evidence-based, high-quality after-school and summer-learning programs.
- Support academic intervention and enrichment, including STEM education, tutoring, foundational learning, and application of knowledge.
- Strengthen partnerships between school districts and community-based organizations.
Application Due Date
- Due: October 30, 2026, at 5 p.m. CST
- Applications must be submitted through DocuSign.
Grant Award Total Amount
- Individual applications: Up to $50,000
- Collaborative applications require one anchor organization and at least one partner - Up to $225,000
Allowable Purchases
- Allowable expenses include instructional equipment, educational materials, supplies, enrichment activities, professional learning, and program services.
Alignment with LEGO® Education solutions:
- LEGO® Education Science: Supports hands-on science investigations, collaborative problem-solving, and the application of mathematics concepts through engaging STEM learning experiences.
- LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI: Provides hands-on coding, computational thinking, and AI learning experiences that strengthen problem-solving and mathematical reasoning through real-world challenges.
- Professional Development: Professional learning is explicitly allowable, supporting educator preparation and effective implementation of LEGO Education solutions.
- All purchases must be reasonable, necessary, and directly connected to program objectives.
Program Implementation Requirements
- Programs must serve students in Pre-K–12 during summer or outside regular school hours.
- Applicants must use the Alabama Afterschool Quality Standards in planning and implementation.
- Applicants must provide program schedules, staffing plans, instructional activities, and student attendance documentation.
- Awardees must participate in a required virtual intake session and an OXL professional learning session.
- Programs must collect student achievement data and complete an evaluation measuring academic progress and program effectiveness.
- Funds cannot pay for expenses incurred during regular school hours.
Keep in Mind
- Scoring rubric: A 100-point evaluation rubric is included in Appendix B, pages 5–6 of the official FY2027 application memo.
- Highest scoring categories: Evidence of Need (15 points), Activities/Scheduling (15 points), Program Evaluation (15 points), and Budget (15 points).
- Collaborative opportunities: Partnerships between LEAs and community-based organizations can request significantly larger awards.
- Previous awardees: Returning applicants must describe previous funding outcomes and explain changes or similarities in their proposed budgets.
- Application requirements: All required DocuSign signatures must be completed before the deadline.
