Eligibility

Goals
- Increase access to computer science-related Industry Recognized Credentials (IRCs)
- Support alignment of computer science and CTE pathways with high-demand workforce needs
- Provide access to new credentials not previously available to students

- LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime aligns with this grant as instructional equipment and teacher training to support Python programming instruction and preparation for the Certified Entry Level Python Programmer credential.
Program Implementation Requirements
- Credentials must be new to students and included on Iowa’s approved IRC list
- The Certified Entry Level Python Programmer certification is an approved IRC for 2025–26
- LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime sets provide hands-on programming experiences in both block-based and Python coding, directly supporting the skills assessed in the Python certification exam
- LEGO Education professional development ensures teachers are prepared to integrate SPIKE coding activities into credential-aligned coursework
- SPIKE solutions can also supplement pathways into larger CS certifications such as IT Specialist or cloud computing credentials, creating a stackable learning sequence for students
Keep in Mind
- Only industry-recognized credentials on the approved IRC list are eligible (requests for new IRCs will reopen in spring 2026)
- Credentials must be new offerings for participating students
- Applications should demonstrate how the credential connects to workforce needs and expands opportunities for high schoolers
- Remember to identify the correct District/System Size Category for your district:
- Small - K-12 student population under 1,200
- Medium - K-12 student population between 1,200 and 4,999
- Large - K-12 student population of 5,000 or over
