Goals

  • Increase access to computer science-related Industry Recognized Credentials (IRCs)
  • Support alignment of computer science and CTE pathways with high-demand workforce needs
  • Provide access to new credentials not previously available to students

Program Implementation Requirements

  • Credentials must be new to students and included on Iowa’s approved IRC list
  • The Certified Entry Level Python Programmer certification is an approved IRC for 2025–26
  • LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime sets provide hands-on programming experiences in both block-based and Python coding, directly supporting the skills assessed in the Python certification exam
  • LEGO Education professional development ensures teachers are prepared to integrate SPIKE coding activities into credential-aligned coursework
  • SPIKE solutions can also supplement pathways into larger CS certifications such as IT Specialist or cloud computing credentials, creating a stackable learning sequence for students

Keep in Mind

  • Only industry-recognized credentials on the approved IRC list are eligible (requests for new IRCs will reopen in spring 2026)
  • Credentials must be new offerings for participating students
  • Applications should demonstrate how the credential connects to workforce needs and expands opportunities for high schoolers
  • Remember to identify the correct District/System Size Category for your district:
    • Small - K-12 student population under 1,200
    • Medium - K-12 student population between 1,200 and 4,999
    • Large - K-12 student population of 5,000 or over
