MiSTEM PreK-12 Investments in STEM

Eligibility

  • Intermediate School Districts (ISD), Local Education Agencies (LEA), Public School Academies (PSA), or 501(c)(3) community-based organizations serving ISDs, LEAs, or PSAs. Applicants must partner with at least one MEDC Talent Action Team core employer and their local MiSTEM region.

Goals

  • Expand industry awareness and career exposure for PreK-12 students, especially in Advanced Manufacturing sectors: EV/Mobility, Semiconductor, and Aerospace/Defense
  • Increase student engagement and participation in STEM career exploration
  • Develop professional learning for educators to teach industry-relevant content
  • Foster employer engagement in STEM education

Application Due Date

  • May 1, 2025, by 3:00 p.m. EST

Grant Cycle

  • July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2027

Grant Award Total Amount

  • Up to $500,000 per grantee ($2 million total available funding)

Allowable Purchases

  • LEGO Product (supplies): Yes, LEGO Education SPIKE Prime/Essential introduces students to real-world STEM skills (coding, robotics, engineering, design thinking) that are foundational for Michigan’s strategic industries (advanced manufacturing, automotive, IT, etc.). SPIKE Prime/Essential mirrors industry tools and workflows by aligning with automation, coding, and problem-solving skills used in engineering and technology careers.

Program Implementation Requirements

  • Must include programming for at least one PreK–8 grade level
  • Must demonstrate connection between PK-8 and any 9–12 programming if applicable
  • Required local employer engagement (e.g., site visits, co-created lessons, industry speakers)

Keep in Mind

  • A pre-application webinar will be held on March 27, 2025 (10:00 – 11:30 a.m. EST) to guide applicants through the application process.
  • Questions about the grant must be submitted by April 1, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. EST to LEO-MiSTEM@michigan.gov.
  • The funding is competitive, so applications should clearly outline how the project prepares students for high-tech careers and builds employer engagement.
