Our role is to provide the tools and confidence educators need to teach AI in age-appropriate and responsible ways
Our approach to AI is rooted in child wellbeing, safety and privacy, to actively help students thrive, collaborate and create. We designed our AI experiences to ensure responsible use and effectively deliver high-quality learning.
- We do not collect personal information from students for any reason - that means no logins, no data leaving the student device, and no models trained on student data.
- All AI features run locally on the student device and no data is transmitted to the LEGO Group or any third parties.
- All personally identifiable information (e.g., raw camera data) is removed. Just pose information is used and stored, and only locally.
Our AI experience is built on the AI engine called MoveNet, developed by Google. It is a robust engine that has been tested extensively in different environments and with different groups.
To perform fairness evaluation the engine has grouped user samples into 14 evenly distributed geographic subregions (based on United Nations geoscheme). Additionally, the model has been qualitatively evaluated on users with missing limbs and prosthetics to ensure children everywhere can learn without discrimination.
We respect the intellectual property and the creative rights of others. Our AI tools do not scrape or utilize copyrighted material from the open web.
Instead, the learning experience is built around students creating their own data through movement or using ethically sourced, pre-trained models. This ensures students are creators of their own content.
Our product is a tool for learning computer science and AI concepts through coding and does not have the capacities of a conversational companion or chatbot.
This eliminates the risks often associated with AI chatbots including hallucinations, inappropriate language, or emotional manipulation/ dependence, ensuring the focus remains strictly on CS & AI learning outcomes.
We prioritize student dignity and privacy by ensuring that no image or video data ever leaves the device. The camera is used strictly as a real-time sensor to detect coordinates (poses), meaning it does not record or transmit images.
This architectural safeguard prevents student footage from being intercepted, shared or manipulated, effectively neutralizing the risk of deepfakes or cyberbullying.
Because all AI processing happens locally on the student's device, we eliminate the need for constant communication with energy-intensive cloud servers.
This approach significantly reduces the energy consumption and carbon footprint associated with running AI in the classroom.
With LEGO® Education Computer Science & AI, students learn AI in safe and responsible ways, going beyond simply using the technology to understanding how it actually works.
By developing fundamental AI literacy students can learn to navigate these technologies now, and into the future.
