Course Objectives

MINDSTORMS EV3 Training | LEGO Academy

We deliver training that is not only playful and engaging, but gives educators confidence to leave the training saying, "I can do this. I can apply this in my teaching."


The training will enable teachers to:

  • Implement and utilize LEGO® Education solutions in day-to-day teaching
  • Align the use of the material to curriculum standards
  • Create lesson plans according our 4C approach to learning
  • Understand how LEGO Education resources facilitate students’ learning
A full-day course consists of the following key elements:
  • Hands-on within the first 10 minutes 
  • Two-thirds of the course includes hands-on activities
  • One-third of the course includes presentation and discussion
  • Curriculum-relevant coursework
  • Lesson planning
  • 7 hours of training, including breaks 

Led by a certified LEGO Education Academy Trainer, this course will prepare you to teach STEM using LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3. Experience how you can facilitate inspiring hands-on lessons that support your students to both achieve curriculum goals and boost 21st century skills like creativity, critical thinking and problem-solving in a collaborative environment.

Make yourself familiar with the basics of the LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 hardware, software and curriculum resources. Build your first robot, begin programming, and solve problems using STEM skills – following the same suggested getting started approach and resources you can use to introduce your students to STEM using EV3.

The course will be facilitated through fun and engaging training experiences that will give you a fundamental introduction to the LEGO Education approach to learning and what we mean by Learning through Play. Each activity will be followed by reflection and discussion on methodology, curriculum areas, application and differentiation in your classroom.

To support you in succeeding, we will provide time and guidance to plan your first lessons using this teaching material and approach to learning. By the end of the course, you will be fully prepared to successfully implement LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 in your class.

Robot Educator | MINDSTORMS EV3 Training

Led by a certified LEGO Education Academy Trainer, this course will build upon your prior knowledge and experience to give you an extended understanding of how to teach science using LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3. Encourage your students to work like real scientists and use the EV3 platform to build up and conduct their own experiments around energy, force and motion, light, and heat and temperature.

Learn more about how to use the hardware and software of the EV3 platform for science and collect and analyze data in different ways, utilizing live, remote and autonomous data logging, and powerful tools in EV3 Lab. It is not necessary to have an understanding of programming.

Like the EV3 Introduction, this course will be facilitated through fun and motivating activities. Experience inspiring experiments from the EV3 Science Curriculum from a student perspective with enough time to reflect and discuss more about learning approaches, curriculum areas, and application and differentiation in your classroom. Gain ideas for how to facilitate engaging hands-on lessons that support your students to both achieve curriculum goals and boost their 21st century skills.

To support you in succeeding, we will provide time and guidance to plan your first science lessons using this teaching material and approach to learning. By the end of the course, you will be fully prepared to implement LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 in your science class.

Science | MINDSTORMS EV3 Training

Prerequisites:

  • Completed EV3 Introduction course. No coding required.
  • LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 Lab (Windows/Mac OS) required.
  • MINDSTORMS Temperature Sensors (9749) and Renewable Energy Add-on Sets (9688) required.

Encourage your students to learn to follow a professional design engineering process to design, build and program their own robots to move, act smarter than the average machine, and perform complex tasks as a reliable system.

Learn more about how to use the hardware and software of the EV3 platform for design engineering and make yourself familiar with how the design engineering process can be applied to solve relevant engineering challenges. Depending on whether you want your students to focus more on specific areas like construction, programming, automation, control systems, etc., the content editor allows you adapt any given projects or even create your own directly in EV3 Lab.

Like the EV3 Introduction, this course will be facilitated through fun and motivating activities. Experience inspiring projects from the EV3 Design Engineering Projects curriculum from a student perspective with enough time to reflect and discuss more about learning approaches, curriculum areas, application and differentiation in your classroom. Gain ideas for how to facilitate engaging hands-on lessons that support your students to both achieve curriculum goals and boost their 21st century skills.

To support you in succeeding, we will provide time and guidance to plan your first design engineering lessons using this teaching material and approach to learning. By the end of the course, you will be fully prepared to implement LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 in your design engineering class.

Encourage your students to take their coding and computational thinking skills to the next level by developing driver-assistance systems for an intelligent car.

Learn more about how to use the hardware and software of the EV3 platform for coding. The visual layout of the drag-and-drop blocks in EV3 Lab makes it intuitive to introduce concepts like control flow, multitasking, data processing, communication, algorithms, etc., while the robot provides immediate feedback on how your code performs. An outlook on further programming languages will be provided.

Target Audiences:

  • High school, vocational/technology school, upper middle/secondary school and university instructors.
  • Teachers with experience with text-based programming.  The course is not recommended for participants with no programming experience.

To support you in succeeding, we will provide time and guidance to plan your first robotics lessons or prepare for coaching your first team using this teaching material and approach to learning. By the end of the course, you will be fully prepared to implement LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 in your robotics class and coach your team in a robotics program.
