Microsoft Silverlight Issues
The LEGO® MINDSTORMS® Education EV3 software detected an internal problem and was unable to launch.
Such problems are often due to issues with your Microsoft Silverlight installation. This document will guide you through fixing your Microsoft Silverlight installation.
Step 1: Uninstall all versions of Microsoft Silverlight
Begin by launching the Windows Control Panel. Your Control Panel may either be in Category view or Classic/Icon view. Follow the directions for your OS version as detailed below.
Windows XP – Category View
Click Add or Remove Programs. Find Microsoft Silverlight, select it, and press Remove. Confirm the removal when prompted.
Windows XP – Classic/Icon View
Open Add or Remove Programs. Find Microsoft Silverlight, select it, and press Remove. Confirm the removal when prompted.
Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 – Category View
Under Programs, click Uninstall a program. Find Microsoft Silverlight and right click on it. Choose the Uninstall option that appears. Confirm the uninstall when prompted.
Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 – Classic/Icon View
Open Programs and Features. Find Microsoft Silverlight and right click on it. Choose the Uninstall option that appears. Confirm the uninstall when prompted.
Step 2: Install the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight
Visit http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/Default.aspx and follow the directions to install the latest version of Microsoft Silverlight.
Step 3: Verify Silverlight is enabled in Internet Explorer
The LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 software requires the Silverlight add-on to be enabled in Internet Explorer. To make sure it is, follow the directions below. These directions are only for Internet Explorer 11. If you have a different version of Internet Explorer installed, refer to directions for your version at

To verify that Microsoft Silverlight by Microsoft Corporation is enabled follow these steps:
- Launch Internet Explorer (n Windows 8 or 8.1, be sure to launch the Desktop version of Internet Explorer).
- Go to the Tools menu and choose Manage add-ons.
- Under Show, click All add-ons. Find Microsoft Silverlight under Microsoft Corporation and make sure its status is Enabled. If it is Disabled, select Microsoft Silverlight and then click the Enable button.
- Click Close.
Step 4: Launch LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3
Having completed the steps above, try launching LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 again.
