1. What did you think of LEGO® Education SPIKE™ Prime?
With SPIKE™ Prime students were able to program more freely.
The students said they were able to achieve their goals and create something even better than they had imagined, so I’m glad we used SPIKETM Prime.
2. Do you think the successes you’ve experienced could translate easily in other schools?
It’s not that Narimasugaoka Elementary School is uniquely suited for this – I believe other schools could do it too.
I’m only in my fifth year of teaching, so I believe other teachers without much experience could do the same thing. If you develop a lesson while critically thinking about what needs to be done, the students can focus on what they need to do.
3. How long did it take the students to learn how to use SPIKE Prime?
With graduation approaching, sixth graders are busy, and at times we could only spare two hours a week. In the end, we used a total of 20 hours during integrated studies classes and were able cover everything from research to assembly.
4. How helpful was it that your students had previous experience with Scratch.
Well, the robot portion was a new experience for them, but there was a sense of being at ease as they already had Scratch as a base. Some of the students said that they had seen Scratch before and suggested ways to enter commands, so I think they got it quickly.
